The SSP Foundation is a registered charity (registered charity no. 1163717) which supports a wide range of charities nominated by SSP UK colleagues. In addition, the foundation makes grants to support SSP UK’s charity of the year, and to support projects which help young people develop their skills and careers.
The majority of the SSP Foundation’s income comes from the charity collection tins which are on the till points in SSP units across the UK. The foundation is governed by a board of trustees, who approve the grants made by the SSP Foundation.
HELPING GOOD CAUSES IN YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES
The SSP Foundation wants to support the charities, schools and community groups that SSP UK colleagues care about. Colleagues can apply to the Foundation for a grant to match any fundraising they have done for a local charity, or to match the value of the personal time which colleagues volunteer for community groups, schools and charities. Each year, a colleague can apply for a grant up to the value of £1,000.
During 2018, the SSP Foundation made a total of 71 grants with a total value of £200,000 to a range of both local and national charities. The largest single grant was awarded to Macmillan Cancer Support in order to kick start colleague fundraising.
The SSP Foundation also makes large grants to support projects aimed at supporting skills development for young people who may be from disadvantaged backgrounds and face challenges in establishing their careers. During 2019, the SSP Foundation and SSP UK are working in partnership with AIM Apprenticeships to fund a project to support young people, especially NEETs, to get into the workplace and apprenticeships.
