Team Members & Team Leaders

As a team member, you could be greeting our customers at any time of the day: perhaps first thing in the morning – giving our customers a hearty breakfast and a barista-standard coffee. Or maybe even later on at night where our customers are looking for a bite to eat to enjoy on their way home.

Either way, it will be your job to make sure all our product is served to a high standard, the unit is presentable and our customers go away smiling. We offer discounts to our colleagues on all our brands (up to 50%!) so you can enjoy a discounted meal during your break.

It is your personality that will make the difference in enhancing our customer experience. And if you ever need any support, you won’t be working alone. You will be part of a team who can help you whenever you need it.

We also offer a number of learning and development programmes that not only help you move up the ladder within SSP, but are nationally recognised across the hospitality industry.

Like our team members, our team leaders are dedicated to making every customer's experience the best it can be. Whether you're serving up the perfect burger or making sure no one is kept waiting, you'll make sure our good reputation for customer service stays that way.

You'll be an example for your team; a leader and role-model with a hands-on approach and sense of responsibility that means no job goes unfinished. You will lead the shift, ensuring that the unit and brand standards are met consistently. Your drive, determination, people management skills and excellent customer focus will be invaluable to your manager.

We look for energetic and driven individuals when recruiting for team leader: people who aren’t afraid of a challenge, who are ambitious and crave the opportunity to work and grow within a vibrant and successful business. As with all of our roles, you will be given the opportunity to take part in learning and development programmes that allow you to work towards nationally recognised qualifications, as well as potential promotion into management.

We offer career progression from Team Member in front of house or kitchen and back of house roles, to Team Leader.  As a Team Leader, you'll be an example for your team; a leader and role-model with a hands-on approach and sense of responsibility that means no job goes unfinished. You will lead the shift, ensuring that the unit and brand standards are met consistently. Your drive, determination, people management skills and excellent customer focus will be invaluable to your manager.

    Saurabh
    Profile
    Saurabh joined SSP in 2006. His first managerial position with SSP was an assistant Manager role at Upper Crust, Victoria Station and was promoted to Unit Manager at Ixxys within a year. He then took on multiple units for Upper Crust, Liverpool Street Station and then further responsibility for our excel Centre units.  He then became Multi-unit manager for Bristol temple meads station responsible for Coffee & Bakery and Bar’s after successfully managing Bristol, Saurabh was promoted to Operations Manager for Millie’s Cookies UK South for a year, Saurabh then moved to Rail London, and after having completed two successful years he was given the opportunity to become Ops Manager for Bristol and Cardiff Airport, whilst taking the opportunity of supporting our Netherlands business. Recently, Saurabh has embarked further in his development by working towards his Level 7 Masters Degree. In September 2019 Saurabh was promoted to Operations Director of our London Rail business.

    What has been the highlight of your SSP development journey?

    Earlier in my career I gained more confidence in my ability to manage people and enjoyed being asked to be involved in a number of varied projects. In more recent years I have experienced managing different brands and types business within SSP Airports in the UK and overseas, and was delighted to achieve promotion to Operations Director earlier this year.

    Fiona joined SSP 10 years ago as a part- time team leader in a café bar. She is now a Multi-Unit Manager of real Food Company and Soho Coffee.

    What has been the highlight of your SSP development journey?

    I have enjoyed meeting new friends and sharing best practice across the business. The opportunity to gain experience, learn new skills and develop within the company has had a big impact on my career path. The programmes have given me the drive to think about my future with SSP.

    Profile
    Joined SSP in March 2013 as a Team Member. Gosia completed SSP apprenticeships Level 1, 2 and 3.
    Promoted to Team Leader, then Assistant Manager, running own Unit and then acting as a trainee General Manager.
    After deciding on a career change, Gosia started a new role as a Recruitment Officer at our Euston support office where she has since been promoted to Recruitment Team Manager in 2019, and heads up the team that recruit our team members and team leaders for our UK & Ireland sites.

    What has been the highlight of your SSP development journey?

    SSP have given me a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop my skills.  Over the last 6 years I have had a great opportunity to work in different roles and different departments. Most recently I have been promoted to Recruitment Team Manager and support my operations colleagues in hiring great teams.
