Team Members & Team Leaders

As a team member, you could be greeting our customers at any time of the day: perhaps first thing in the morning – giving our customers a hearty breakfast and a barista-standard coffee. Or maybe even later on at night where our customers are looking for a bite to eat to enjoy on their way home.

Either way, it will be your job to make sure all our product is served to a high standard, the unit is presentable and our customers go away smiling. We offer discounts to our colleagues on all our brands (up to 50%!) so you can enjoy a discounted meal during your break.

It is your personality that will make the difference in enhancing our customer experience. And if you ever need any support, you won’t be working alone. You will be part of a team who can help you whenever you need it.

We also offer a number of learning and development programmes that not only help you move up the ladder within SSP, but are nationally recognised across the hospitality industry.

Like our team members, our team leaders are dedicated to making every customer's experience the best it can be. Whether you're serving up the perfect burger or making sure no one is kept waiting, you'll make sure our good reputation for customer service stays that way.

You'll be an example for your team; a leader and role-model with a hands-on approach and sense of responsibility that means no job goes unfinished. You will lead the shift, ensuring that the unit and brand standards are met consistently. Your drive, determination, people management skills and excellent customer focus will be invaluable to your manager.

We look for energetic and driven individuals when recruiting for team leader: people who aren’t afraid of a challenge, who are ambitious and crave the opportunity to work and grow within a vibrant and successful business. As with all of our roles, you will be given the opportunity to take part in learning and development programmes that allow you to work towards nationally recognised qualifications, as well as potential promotion into management.

We offer career progression from Team Member in front of house or kitchen and back of house roles, to Team Leader.  As a Team Leader, you'll be an example for your team; a leader and role-model with a hands-on approach and sense of responsibility that means no job goes unfinished. You will lead the shift, ensuring that the unit and brand standards are met consistently. Our Online Academy platform enables colleagues to access structured “Pathways” that guide them through learning activities tailored to specific training or development needs. Be it colleague induction or a development pathway to support promotion to the next level, our pathways enable both the colleague and their line manager to track progress and plan their learning.

    Jonny
    Profile
    Jonny started his career as a team member for M&S at Manchester Piccadilly Station at SSP five years ago. He was promoted to team leader two years later and was heavily involved in the opening of a new store at Manchester Victoria Station. Jonny recently passed his Retail Team Leader NVQ and is currently working back at his first store, Manchester Piccadilly Station, where he will be temporarily managing the unit in the current manager’s absence with the intention of preparing himself to manage his own store.

    What has been the highlight of your SSP development journey?

    The support network from other Managers, Ops Managers and the Learning Support team within SSP have helped my knowledge, understanding and confidence grow. This has allowed me to make the most of the opportunities that SSP provides and has lead me to prepare myself to manage my own store when one becomes available.
